Erotic Art Is Tricky by Allan Teger

I was the first winner of the erotic art contest at Sin City Gallery. I had a one person show and an incredible time in Las Vegas – a lovely, well attended opening, an interview with the local NPR station, and additional interviews with journalists.

Doing erotic art is tricky – its hard to find a market and hard to connect with galleries and customers who appreciate the work as art – not just as erotica. But those people are out there. Laura made the connections happen at her gallery. It is absolutely critical that erotic art be presented with class and sophistication if we want it to be appreciated as art. The art itself and the gallery have to present the work so that people at all the various levels of openness, can be comfortable. What is boring to one person, could be over-the-top disgusting to another person. However, if people feel comfortable, knowing that they are at an art event, they become more open to the art and to sensuality itself. This is what happened at the Sin City Gallery. It was a unique event and one of my best experiences showing my Bodyscape photographs.
